Back country trips can give you a whole different perspective on the area you are visiting, giving you a chance to see parts that not everybody sees. In Yellowstone there is so much area for back country trips and each area offers a different experience.

You will need to do a lot of research on the area you want to go to see what the rules and regulations are, what permits are needed, what precautions will be needed for safety, what type of trip is best for your group & what gear is needed.

Will you need to bring specialty gear? If you are mostly working out of duffel bags for the trip but when you go on the back country you will need to bring backpacks, will you have enough room in your gear vehicles? Maybe you will need specialty cooking equipment.

In most areas if you are doing a back country trip you will need to take extra precautions for attracting wildlife, this was talked about in our safety and food sections. You should most likely try to hang your gear from a pole or tree. Bear spray is recommended if going to places like Yellowstone where you could encounter bears please make sure to read up on all the proper bear safety issues before going into these areas.
